Upneeq® is a prescription eye drop available at our Santa Barbara practice to treat acquired blepharoptosis, or low-lying upper eyelids, in adults. This once-daily ophthalmic solution contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride, an alpha-adrenergic agonist that works by stimulating the muscle in the upper eyelid, causing it to contract and lift the eyelid temporarily. Results can be visible as quickly as 5 to 15 minutes after application and may last for up to 8 hours, offering patients some degree of improvement without surgical procedures like ptosis repair and eyelid surgery.
