Breast reconstruction, in addition to the cosmetic benefits, is known to instill new confidence in women who have suffered a loss of self-esteem due to a mastectomy. With advanced techniques available at Santa Barbara Plastic Surgery Center, we can restore your breasts with results that look natural and beautiful.

Breast reconstruction can typically be performed immediately after a mastectomy or it can be delayed until after your initial breast cancer treatment. Our experienced breast reconstruction surgeon, Dr. Wesley Schooler, uses two different reconstruction techniques to create and shape the new breast: implant-based reconstruction and autologous reconstruction. The option you choose will be based on your ultimate goals and unique needs. Implant-based reconstruction functions similarly to breast augmentation with implants, and utilizes tissue expanders to prepare the chest tissue to receive the implant. Autologous reconstruction recreates the breast using the body’s own natural tissues, utilizing fat and skin taken from another area of the body in which there is an excess (typically the abdomen).
