Santa Barbara Plastic Surgery is proud to offer an advanced, non-invasive treatment designed to correct a range of common ear deformities affecting newborns. The EarWell® Infant Ear Correction System makes it possible to repair certain cosmetic irregularities of the ears in infancy. Utilizing specialized molds and adhesives consistently applied to the ears during an infant’s first several weeks of life, the EarWell® System can gently correct misshapen ears with permanent results.
Our practice was inspired to become a provider of the EarWell® Infant Ear Correction System after the son of one of our own plastic surgeons, Dr. Wesley Schooler, received successful treatment to correct an ear abnormality with the device. We are very excited to offer this innovative, painless procedure that has proven effective for so many children!

Benefits of the EarWell® Device
It’s estimated that 15-29% of children are born with some type of ear deformity. When a child is in infancy, it’s difficult to know whether the problem will self-correct over time, or potentially get worse, with the only solution being otoplasty or other ear repair surgery options later in life. With the EarWell® Correction System, a number of ear deformities can be addressed as early as possible, without the need for invasive surgery. Some of the ear conditions that can be treated with the EarWell® device include:
- Prominent ears
- Cup ear
- Lop ear
- Conchal Crus
- Helical compression
- Stahl’s Ear
The EarWell® Correction System involves absolutely no needles, incisions, or surgery, and typically only takes about six weeks for the best results. This treatment is capable of gently reshaping the ears and correcting abnormalities before the child reaches the age where they may be subject to taunting and teasing from their peers. Many insurance companies offer coverage for this procedure, and it can ultimately prevent the need for plastic surgery in later years.
The EarWell® Procedure
During your initial consultation, one of our experienced plastic surgeons will examine your child and determine if he or she is a good candidate for this procedure. If the EarWell® Infant Ear Correction System is an ideal option, our surgeon will develop a comprehensive treatment plan. The EarWell® System involves a series of plastic molds designed to reshape the ear’s cartilage and diminish aesthetic irregularities. The treatment should begin as soon after birth as possible, preferably within the first or second week. The molds will be applied with a special adhesive, and are typically changed out once every two weeks. In most cases, a total of three molds over a six-week period will yield the best results.
The EarWell® Infant Ear Correction System has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and has proven to successfully correct misshapen ears and other common ear deformities in many infants. The treatment has also been adopted by a number of teaching hospitals across the country, including UCLA, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai, Kaiser Permanente, Stanford, and many others.
