Basically if you do not have an effective home skin care regimen anything that you would do in this office is somewhat negated. If you come in and you do a chemical peel or you have surgery, facial surgery, you will not get as good of a result if you are not taking care of your skin on a daily basis at home. It is extremely important.

Obagi is a very aggressive skin care line and incredibly result oriented. What it can do, there is one division of the line that is called Nu-Derm and it really helps with the anti-aging process of aging skin such as fine lines. It also really helps with discoloration meaning hyperpigmentation and so evens out the skin tone and smooths the skin and it ends up after you are done with the process your skin is in perfect balance with the environment where you really do not need any moisturizer. Obagi with any of our treatments such as the microdermabrasion or a chemical peel that can be used in conjunction with the Obagi line at any point of the process. In Obagi you start off with more aggressive steps when you start the Obagi process and then after you reach a certain plateau you sort of downgrade and you use some of the products intermittently, you do not use them as regularly. But, at any point, you can do microdermabrasion and it sometimes will help speed up the process exfoliation of the skin.

Chemical peels are similar to microdermabrasion but it is actually I would say you get faster results. The chemicals penetrate deeper than the microdermabrasion and it really helps with hyperpigmentation and acne scarring and also poor size.
Hi, I am Giana Miller. I have been here for three-and-a-half years. I am a licensed aesthetician. I do chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and facials. Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation and what it does is it shoots out aluminium oxide crystals that help resurface your skin. It is a really fast procedure and you can do it on your lunch hour. You may experience a little redness afterwards that is very minor. Microdermabrasion what it does is it helps cell turn over and it is really nice when you are on Obagi skin care line and you do the microdermabrasion in conjunction and what it does is it helps cell turn over and it can help with hyperpigmentation, minor acne scarring, and sun damage.

The fillers are great for enhancing lips. I do a fair amount of patients that come in that have actually no lips as well as patient’s who have full lips but want even fuller lips and one of the nice things about using these fillers is that it sometimes can be six to seven months, sometimes a temporary look. Sometimes it gives them a chance to see what it looks like temporarily and then sometimes then we can chose something that lasts a little bit longer further on down the line. Patients are sometimes concerned to come for BOTOX or for fillers because they are concerned about the amount of pain involved. We have some terrific numbing creams. Also for patients that want their lips done, I also do a dental block, so we try and have as little pain involved as possible and make it as comfortable and as pleasurable experience for the patient.
Fillers are a great way to replace missing volume. Besides sometimes having BOTOX and just relaxing the muscles, sometimes we actually need to replace missing volume. In patients, sometimes the nasolabial folds, sometimes also up in here people have very deep furrows up there and usually fillers are used a little bit more in the bottom portion of the face, but can be used actually anywhere and there are several different types of fillers. It all depends upon what we need to do. The earlier fillers were your collagen fillers. They are great and have a place, but they are not as long-lasting as some of the newer fillers that are out which are generally your hyaluronic acid products such as Restylane and the newest product as of 2007 in January is JUVEDERM and the hyaluronic acid products are great because there is no allergic reaction to them because the hyaluronic acid is what we are born with. It is what in our skin gives us that youthful look because it holds moisture and volume. They have been around in topical products, but do not work as well topically. They have now been improved by the FDA to be injected specifically under a wrinkle to create some of that missing volume that has been there, and there is also a product out there that is a little bit heavier product that lasts longer that we are using as well called Radiesse.
Hi, I am Kathy. I am Dr. Buchanan’s nurse. I have been here over five-and-a-half years. I am the operating room supervisor and I am also the aesthetic nurse specialist for the office. BOTOX is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes the muscles to give you a smoother more natural look. It is basically used in the upper portion of the face, sometimes between the brows, which is called the frown lines, the forehead lines, and sometimes the crow’s feet. It is a temporary relaxant. It lasts about three to four months. Patients love it because it just kind of gives you that more refreshed natural look. BOTOX has been around for over 20 years. It is a very, very safe product. It was originally brought about to help children with strabismus, which is crossed eyes and also cerebral palsy. It has been used for muscles that are contracted to help relax them as well; it is used in very large portions for that. It has been around cosmetically for several years where we use very small amounts of the product to help temporarily relax muscles. The latest thing to be approved by the FDA was the use of BOTOX for hyperhidrosis, which is excessive sweating in the armpits, and the patients that suffer from that problem absolutely love it. The relief that they get for about seven to nine months is phenomenal for people that suffer with that.
My name is Diana and I have had liposuction under my chin, a facelift, upper and lower eye and a brow lift. Before I felt aged and when you looked in the mirror and I am one of the baby boomers who, you know, not quite ready to get old yet. So, I did feel older. My eyes were droopy, although I called them bedroom eyes, but they are not and I had a lot of, you know, sagging chin and so that was what I felt was the best part of it was losing the sagging chin underneath, the extra chin and having my eyes more open and looking more refreshed and awake, that is really helpful. Yes, I would definitely recommend Dr. Buchanan and I have to several couple of friends and only because they knew what I had done and want to know what was available and the reason definitely is because I felt confident about what happened and the outcome.
